Charting the Course: Botebora’s Journey to Nepal’s Premier Water Sports
The journey towards boating innovation in Nepal began in 1968 when two boats were landed by the non-profit organization ID International, led by Edmund Hillary and Jon Hamilton. This marked the initial step in bringing boating to the country. However, it wasn't until 1991 that Raj Kumar Shrestha and Chitra Bahadur Dhakal formally proposed the introduction of motor boats to the government of Nepal. Despite their efforts and communication with the Forest and Tourism Ministries, the proposal faced delays and remained unapproved.
A significant breakthrough came in 2016 when young enthusiasts, including Mr. Dhakal, aimed to transform and elevate Nepal's recreational and adventure boating culture. After years of dedicated research and development, Botebora was officially registered in 2018 by Mr. Dhakal, fulfilling his father's vision. Named in honor of Nepal’s Bote community, Botebora launched as a licensed speedboating service provider with its first base in Bharatpur. The company has since expanded to Bharat Tal in Sarlahi (2019), Nepalganj, and Surkhet and continues to actively research and develop new ports to further enhance recreational water sports and entertainment across Nepal.
